Why Use Petitions?

It may be even more important to get others to sign petitions than it is to sign one yourself, although you should do it too.

Getting someone to sign a petition is a small thing, but it calls forth the principle of commitment and consistency.

And when the number of signers is large, it calls forth the principle of social proof.

Signing a petition is a relatively small and easy thing to do, but it sometimes makes a statement to our representatives that they notice, and it causes a change in the mind of the signer, making her or him feel more committed to the cause.
