The Insurgency In Iraq
Saturday
FRONTLINE went to Iraq in 2005 to try to discover what the insurgency is up to, who is in control of it, and how they do what they do. The Frontline team was able to get interviews with insurgents, footage of them bombing a military enclosure and making remote detonators, and footage of U.S. troops raiding insurgent strongholds.
We discover several groups of insurgents with differing views of how far they can go to throw the U.S. out of Iraq. Many of the insurgents are from other Muslim countries, and they bring money with them. They come to Iraq and pay out-of-work, ex-military Iraqis to fire missiles at U.S. troops. The foreign insurgents bring huge amounts of cash when they sneak into Iraq, and their sole goal is to wage jihad against non-Muslims, and Iraq is the place to do it these days.
In the interviews with the insurgents, you'll find out what they want, and why they do what they do. And you'll find out how the security forces of Iraq are learning to defeat the insurgents.
Follow the link below and you can watch the program online, read extended interviews, discussions, and an article by a counterinsurgency expert.
